I have been a gardener for most of my life, yet this work from the Lily series produced my first successful photographs from my garden. I found myself planning new plantings with an eye toward what I wanted to photograph, and then I waited all year for the lilies to bloom. Photographing them on site in the garden, my interest in light, texture and metaphor was embedded in the photographic notion of ‘the moment’ as my opportunities to make pictures were fleeting.
